If you’ve had any lab experience at all, the chances are very high that you’ve had to run a procedure that extends well beyond a nine-hour workday. Certainly, you’ve had to leave an experiment or assay running overnight, perhaps even over several days. If there are risks associated with an experiment while you’re in the lab, just imagine those risks if you aren’t around to correct a problem! In fact, that’s just what the Northeastern University Office of Environmental Health and Safety would like you to do: imagine the risks. Then take steps to mitigate them. For example, ensure your laboratory freezer has a redundant power supply in case external power is interrupted.
