Not All Luting Agents Are Created Equal
August 7th, 2012
When you go to the trouble to have something like this repaired, you'd like that repair to last a while.
When I first ran across this article on “different luting agents,” I wondered why dentists were concerned about court musicians to medieval royalty. It turns out that the luting agents they are concerned with are liquid cements used to retain dental prosthetics. To fairly evaluate the effectiveness of the different luting agents in binding castings to abutments, they first prepared the mating surfaces. One of the principal surface preparations is a good cleaning, given at the hands of an ultrasonic cleaner. They did find a significant difference among the different types of luting agents.
