As we’ve discussed on several occasions, farming is a pretty low margin business, especially when done on a small scale. To maximize margins—and at the same time, keep a handle on costs—farmers have adopted a variety of management techniques, which they attempt to improve as frequently as possible. Here are some photos preparatory to an evaluation of an experimental chicken feed. The amount of feed administered is monitored by weighing on a platform scale. The conditions of the test are pretty standard throughout the poultry industry, although that doesn’t mean they’re necessarily admirable.
