Microarrays are valuable tools for rapid biological assays—an enzyme freezer can help maintain their accuracy.

If the 20th century was the century of physics, then the 21st is well on track to be the century of biology.  Techniques and methods that were once the subject of advanced research projects evolve into technologies at the heart of new apparatus. So it is that you don’t need to calculate the wavefunction of an electron in a quantum well to operate a digital camera; you just need to know the operational procedure.  Although not quite as advanced, the same principle is at work with this procedure for microarray hybridization, developed at Louisiana State University.  To maintain the quality of the process, the procedure calls for storing some reagents in an enzyme freezer.
