How to Disinfect and Sterilize, Competency by Competency

The Training Development Element of the US Air Force puts out Surgical Service Specialty documents, training aids “which will assist Surgical Service Technicians develop technical skills essential to performing specialized tasks.” In the one describing the skills necessary to perform sterilization and disinfection, some of the competencies required are the ability to properly sort instruments prior to cleaning, a knowledge of how to lay out instruments in a manner appropriate to the stage of the process, and an understanding of the function, use, and mode of action of ultrasonic cleaners.
