Ultrasonic Cleaners for Flammable Solvents

We offer several types of equipment to handle flammable solvents safely.

Never fill a conventional ultrasonic tank with flammable solvent. Use an explosion-proof system or a secondary container in a water-filled bath.

Selecting the Right Path

Match the approach to part size, throughput, and EHS requirements.

Lower volume or R&D

Beaker kits are used to treat samples or clean small parts in 1-liter or 600 mL beakers.

Production with flammables

SOL XP tanks provide classified-area controls and rugged uptime for daily shifts.

Precision assemblies

Elmasolvex VA automates agitation and filtration, removing lubricants, greases, oils, oxidation, and graphites from micro mechanical precision parts.

FAQs: Flammable Solvents and Ultrasonics

Can I fill a standard ultrasonic cleaner with flammable solvent?

No. Open tanks with non-rated controls can ignite solvent vapors. Use explosion-proof systems with proper ventilation. Alternatively, use a beaker kit.

When do I need an explosion-proof unit?

Any time you use flammable or combustible solvents, or when your EHS, NFPA, or insurance requirements specify ignition control and vapor management.

How do beaker kits make solvents safer?

Solvent is placed inside covered beakers while ultrasonic energy couples through a water bath. Vapor release is minimized and proper ventilation keeps vapor away from the ultrasonic generator. Note that beaker kits do not have explosion proof certification.

What makes SOL XP different?

SOL XP tanks comply with ETL/Intertek safety certification using the following methods: Remote location of the electrical panel and generator outside the hazardous duty area, intrinsically safe circuits on tanks, nitrogen-purged transducer enclosure, and self-closing lid for fire protection. These features enable you to process large solvent volumes while maintaining compliance.

Can I reclaim or filter solvent?

Elmasolvex VA systems include filtration. SOL XP offers an optional solvent purification system which includes activated carbon, deionization media, desiccant, and particulate filtration. Filter media can be customized for your application. For other setups, plan for safe solvent change-out, storage, and disposal per your safety program.

Do I still need ventilation?

Yes. These are not closed loop systems. Use local exhaust or a hood to remove solvent vapors and protect operators. Elmasolvex VA offers an optional activated carbon-based absorber unit to extract solvent vapors instead of discharging them to an exhaust or open air. Follow your facility safety officer's guidance for airflow, monitoring, and classification.
