Industrial Ultrasonic Cleaner FAQs

Which line should I start with?

For small batches where a benchtop model is sufficient, use Xtra or xtra TT benchtop. For large parts or large batches use xtra ST portable floor models with optional particle filtration. Where both particle filtration and oil skimming are needed, use Shiraclean. For cleaning with volatile solvents, use SOL XP.

How do I size the tank?

Your largest part should fit inside the basket and be completely submerged in the liquid. For batches, size for throughput. For Shiraclean models, large parts can rest on the bottom rack inside the tank, should not contact the inside walls, and should have a height less than the working depth of the tank.

What duty cycle can these run?

Xtra benchtop handles up to 6 hours of continuous operation; xtra TT and xtra ST handle up to 8 hours/day or single shift operation; Shiraclean is built for daily industrial duty.

Can I run flammable solvents?

Use SOL XP, which is explosion proof and NRTL certified. Standard aqueous units must not be used with solvents that have flash points.

Do I need filtration?

For removal of particulates, add filtration to an xtra ST tank or choose Shiraclean to extend bath life and maintain performance.

What is a weir and do I need one?

A weir is a skimming ledge leading to an additional tank or section. A spray bar is used to push liquid on the surface of the main ultrasonic tank over the ledge. This removes oil floating on the surface of the cleaning solution. Floating oil that comes off oily parts can recoat the parts when they are removed from the tank. A weir and spray bar keep the liquid surface free of oil and are helpful when cleaning oily parts.

What about warranty and support?

Elma industrial tanks carry up to a 3-year tank warranty (xtra TT, Xtra, and xtra ST); SOL XP units carry a 1-year warranty; transducers carry 10 years. Our team supports sizing, installation, and service.
